| SLEEP APNEA Throughout our decades of experience in working with sleep apnea patients, Home Care Specialists has learned one very important fact: COMFORT = COMPLIANCE. What is Sleep Apnea? Every year, millions of people are affected by Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). OSA occurs when the tissue in the back of the throat area collapses during sleep causing a blockage in the airway. This blockage causes the brain to arouse the person from their sleep cycle for a short period to resume normal breathing. The constant cycle of apneas and the interruption of the normal sleep cycle causes poor sleep, resulting in the person not feeling rested, as well as other medical problems, if left untreated. The good news is that OSA can be diagnosed and treated. The most common treatment for OSA is sleep therapy equipment such as CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure). A machine delivers the patient a prescribed pressure through a mask that covers the nose or nose and mouth. This pressure helps to hold the airway open while the patient sleeps, reducing or eliminating the apneas. Reducing or eliminating the apneas allows the patient to stay in the rest and recovery stage of sleep longer, resulting in better sleep habits. These devices are small, quiet, and are covered by most insurance. We specialize in: COMFORT MASK FITTING: Home Care Specialists stocks a wide variety of nasal masks, full face masks, and other application devices. By having an inventory of many different sizes and styles, our Respiratory Therapists are better able to comfortably fit the patient and address any comfort issues at the beginning and throughout therapy. Remember, the first interface is not always the best. COMPLIANCE: We believe that starting a patient on sleep therapy is only one small step of many to get a patient compliant. Many issues such as comfort, leaks, snoring, and different pressure requirements, humidification, and others can effect how compliant a patient may be. Along with verbal and physical interaction, we also capture efficacy data from all of our sleep patients so ensure everything is going well. Information such as ahi, ai, leak, snore, and usage can be reviewed to be sure the patient is receiving adequate therapy. Our respiratory therapists address any issues that may arise and a copy of the report is forwarded to the sleep lab and/or treating physician. SLEEP UNITS: Home Care Specialists uses only the highest quality blower units with all the bells and whistles you deserve. Your physician has a choice of cpap, bipap, and auto pap therapy and can rest assured that you will be benefiting from experienced care and new technologies that have been shown to improve REPLACEMENT PARTS AND ACCESSORIES: Home Care Specialists inventories masks, filters, headgear, tubing, and accessories from many different manufacturers.
